Objective To investigate application characteristic for powder, 3 mm×3 mm×0.4 mm, 3 mm×3 mm×0.2 mm and 1 mm×1 mm×1 mm TLD-LiF chips dosimeters intracoronary brachytherapy restenosis of coronary artery. Methods Dose distribution of surface and radial for a 103Pd radioactive stent and a 32P radioactive liquid-filled balloon were measured by above-mentioned four kinds of LiF thermoluminescence dosimeters (TLD).The results were compared to those calculated by MCNP4B code. Results Difference of dose measurement was shown between powders and various chip TLDs.After the results from 3mm×3mm×0.2 mm chip TLDs were revised by chip-powder adjustment factor, results from this chip and powders was found to show good agreement within the error of the calculations (a few per cent). Conclusion Dose distribution of surface and radial for intracoronary brachytherapy restenosis of coronary artery can be measured by 3 mm×3 mm×0.2 mm TLD chips.

Objective To study the DNA damage of peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) in rats exposed to radionuclide internal irradiation. Methods The radionuclides were injected into the rats and single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) was performed to detect the length of DNA migration in the rat PBMC.Results DNA migration in the rat PBMC increased with accumulative dose or dose-rate.It showed good relationship of dose vs.response and of dose-rate vs.response, both relationship could be described as linear models. Conclusion Radionuclide internal irradiation could cause DNA damage in rat PBMC.

Objective This paper reports the research results of sub-lethal 137Cs γ-rays irradiation on Kunming species mice, and the damage degree of different irradiation dosages and stages in mice were determined. The aim is to provide background data for the basic research of physiological indexes about radiation damage, and thus offer reference data for functional health-food of anti-irradiation, as well. Methods The Kunming species mice were irradiated by 2, 3, 4, 5Gy of 137Cs γ-rays, and the samples of blood, hematopoietic system, immune system and genetic system were taken and determined, respectively, at 3, 5, 7, 14 and 21 day after irradiation. The varieties of biological indexes at different time were obtained, including the white blood cells (WBC), micro-kernel rate, DNA content of marrow, thymus index and spleen index, and so forth. Results The research manifested that all kinds of the biological indexes showed a relationship between dosage-time response and the irradiation intensity. The damage showed the most severe stage was at 3-5 days after irradiation, and then entered the recovery stage began. It did not get normal until after 21 days.By statistics treatment, some indexes of irradiated mice were of the evident differences compared with the control ones without irradiation. Conclusion Aftere sub-lethal dosages of γ-rays irradiation, the determined results of the various biological indexes in mice were reasonable and reliable. All indexes are available to the research of irradiation damage, and can be applied to the drug research of irradiation protection as well.

Objective To investigate the basic condition and development trend of various medical radiations, and the patients' exposures from medical X-ray diagnosis in Shandong province. Methods There were two stages in this survey:general survey and sampling survey. Results The frequencies of tele- and brachytherapy were 1.46 and 1.68 per 1 000 people in 1996 and 1998 respectively. The frequency of diagnostic nuclear medicine was 0.32 and 0.41 per 1 000 people in 1996 and 1998 respectively;for therapeutic nuclear medicine, it was 0.015 and 0.021.The total annual frequencies of every type of X-ray examination and interventional radiology in 1996 and 1998 were 179.8 and 200.0 per 1 000 people respectively. The main type of X-ray examination was chest fluoroscopy, which made up about 39% of the total. Conclusion The results of this study indicate that the average health-care level of the medical radiation service in Shandong province has improved considerably.

Objective To best understand the importance of X- and γ-ray radiations as the reference radiation used in relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of radiations. Methods The difference of the frequencies was observed of micronuclei induced in the root-tip cells of onion seedlings by 60Co γ-ray and X-ray.Results The frequencies of micronuclei induced by 60Co γ-ray and X-ray are (3.41±0.30) and (5.23±0.38)%·Gy-1(±standard deviation), respectively. As an example, the RBE values of neutrons from a nuclear reactor are RBEn, γ=33.7±8.4 and RBEn, X=22.0±5.4 when the reference radiations are 60Co γ-ray and X-ray, respectively. Conclusion For the same radiation, the difference of its RBE values is very significant when the reference radiations are different. It is very important to point out the reference radiation when treat of the RBE values.

Objective To study the depth dose distribution and to summarize the regression equation. Methods A MX-8000CT scanner is used with TLDs and modified CT standard dosimetry phantom.Under 4-slice spiral CT scan with routine clinical parameters the measurements of average radiation dose are performed at radii of Omm, 37.5mm, 75mm, 112.5mm and 150mm from the center of the phantom. Results The radiation dose is in exponential attenuation with the increasing of the depth. Conclusion Knowing the surface dose A during CT examination the radiation dose to organ in vivo could be calculated using the regression equation D=Ae-0.0044x.
