    Objective To analyze the radioactivity in Rare Earth (RE) enrichment of ion adsorption type RE ores.Methods Using HPGe-gamma spectrometer to analyze the activity ratio of gamma radionuclides in kind of samples,using FJ-2603 low background alpha,beta measurement apparatus to measure their total alpha and total beta activities,and using X-ray fluorescence spectrometer to analyze contents of La2O3 and Y2O3,respectively.Results HPGe gamma spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy are simple,convenient and non-destructive methods of analyzing radionuclides and La2O3,Y2O3 in RE enrichment of ion adsorption type RE ores,respectively.Conclusion In this paper,the basic data were provided for radiation protection and treatment of gas,liquid and solid waste in RE production of ion adsorption type RE ores;method and experience were provided for studying ion adsorption type RE ores.

    Obejective To estimate α basic cost (αo) of radiological protection.Methods Using the method of GDP caculation in our country.Results From 1990 to 2000,αo increased from $336 to $981,an average increase of 11.98% a year.Conclusion In our country,the IAEA recommended cost ($3 000) can serve as α basic cost (αo) of radiological protection before it is achived.The ICRP recommended cost ($10,000~20,000) as a basic cost (d) of radiological protection when the IAEA is surpassed.IAEA is considered applicable for the developing countries and the recommended cost of ICRP for developed nations.

    Objective FISH is the most effective way of detecting chromosome aberration and many factors affect its accuracy.G-banding is used to verify the results of early X-ray workers' chromosome translocation examined by FISH.Methods The chromosome translocations of early X-ray workers have been analysed by FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization) and G-banding,yields of translocation treated with statistics.Results The chromosome aberrations frequencies by tow methods are closely related.Conclusion FISH is a feasible way to analyse chromosome aberrations of X-ray workers and reconstruct dose.

    Objective To investigate the health effects of the miners in Baiyun Obo Rare Earth Iron Mine after long-term exposed to high air concentrations of thorium-containing rare-earth dusts and short lived thoron daughters.Methods By using the negative high voltage exhaled thoron progeny measurement system.Results Epidemiological study showed that the SMR of lung cancers of the dust-exposed miners was much higher than that of the controls.The difference between these two SMRs was highly significant.Conclusion It was the first evidence that the dust-exposed miners after long-term (more than 30 years) exposed to high air concentrations of thorium containing rare-earth dusts and thoron short-lived progeny could induce excess lung cancer.The synergic effects of long history smoking and the γ exposure in mining area could not be excluded.
